Salary: $21.60 per hour plus 4% vacation and 5.2% statutory holidays

About the role

Sensory Friendly Solutions, a woman-owned, disability-owned, B-Corp™ certified social enterprise, is seeking the assistance of a supporting occupational therapy student research assistant for a short term employment contract.

Role Description

The research assistant collects and analyzes emerging research and data to identify trends and knowledge gaps about sensory friendly experiences at events and locations along with an understanding of sensory sensitivity and/or sensory overload.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Develop creative knowledge mobilization products such as blogs, social media posts, infographics, presentations and/or short video stories about the accessibility and inclusion features of sensory-friendly products, public events, and locations.
  • Create, modify, and monitor e-learning training provided by SFS. 
  • Help with continuous quality improvement of all knowledge mobilization products.
  • Interpret and identify key results from research evidence and other data sources and convey the information in plain language.  
  • Other duties and responsibilities to support the work of Sensory Friendly Solutions may be assigned.
  • It is important to know that Sensory Friendly Solutions does not deliver occupational therapy services to individuals or groups of clients, the role is to support knowledge mobilization.

Knowledge and skills

  • Self-starter.
  • Works well independently and with a small, remote team across time zones.
  • Familiarity with MS Teams, Trello, Slack, WordPress, YouTube, Vimeo, Canva are all assets.
  • Ability to create and edit digital media (e.g., audio, video, image, etc.).
  • Apply sound judgment and make decisions.
  • Be flexible to rapid changes in project direction based on feedback, opportunities and priorities.
  • Prioritize, multi-task and organize work effectively and under pressure.
  • Being positive, tactful and diplomatic when working with others.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Superb project management skills to deliver knowledge mobilization content on time.

Additional requirements for applicants:

  • Have an undergraduate degree in a related field.
  • Be registered as an Masters or Doctorate in Occupational Therapy Student in Canada as of the employment start date.
  • Successful candidates will also need be approved by and complete documentation for Venture for Canada to BioTalent Canada for this role.
  • Be ready to provide a recent criminal record check.
  • Be ready to provide at least 3 references.
  • There may be a possibility of the role being renewed in 2024, availability for ongoing work, until graduation, is an asset.
